Although a problem for generations, the issues with policing in America really didn't come to the forefront of media attention until 2020, with the heinous public police killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis Minnesota. This led to nationwide protests and even some riots, as more black Americans continued to die at the hands of the police. But this time, people were listening! Those of us who are willing and able have taken up the torch of citizen oversight in form of 'Cop Watching'. The goal is to ensure the police are respecting the rights of EVERY person they interact with. Ensuring they are practicing ethics and professionalism while dealing with the shareholders and stakeholders of our corporate government; We, The People!
Although Cop Watchers would argue that Cop Watching is different than 1st Amendment Audits, the premise is the same. We have certain inalienable rights granted us by the Constitution to record our public servants in the course of their duties while in public. Whether those officials and public servants are working in the streets or in a public office building doesn't matter, it is the 1st Amendment that protects all of those activities and helps promote citizen oversight and accountability. For the purposes of this site, and 1A509 Media's mission of promoting 1st Amendment activism, we have incorporated Cop Watching into our site and activities. Be sure to bookmark this site, and subscribe to our social media channels to be alerted when we have new videos. We are slow to start, but we will have videos up soon!
